In a lather

|

Why do some soaps have such ridiculous names? Lever 2000? What is that? Sure, it's made by Unilever. But by this logic, we should be having Nabisco 3000 with our banana pudding, instead of Nilla Wafers. And that's just silly. Also silly: Lava soap. The only way I can figure the name "Lava" happened is that it was invented before focus groups roamed the earth.

Geek love, chapter 3000

|

Omg, I am officially in love with Ruby on Rails. I want to buy it flowers and kiss its cheek and tell it that it is the best thing since Carmex in a tube.

Wilhelm scream

|

Did anyone else hear the Wilhelm scream toward the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest? When the Flying Dutchman is flinging cannonballs at the Black Pearl, you see a guy tossed into the air, and I swear I heard the Wilhelm scream. There was a lot of screaming going on though, so I could be mistaken - but it was indeed used in the first Pirates. Aiiieee!

When I make a mental note to myself to look something up later (e.g. Wilhelm scream), I have found myself lately using Google keyword syntax as shorthand to remember things. I think this is also a sign that I should step away from the computer. Huh.

George Mauer, New Orleans Lover

|

Girls, give it up for the official New Orleans Lover, George Mauer. He likes dancing and philosophy, and dislikes drama and cheap liquor. Apparently he also likes Clairol for Men.

Also, You Can't Touch This.

Mwah

|

NYC was a great break...truly magnificent. Is there a word for that gesture where you put your fingers together and bring them to your mouth and you kiss the tips of your fingers and then open up your hand and say "mwah"? As in, "That'sa gooda meataball" *mwah*! I was doing a lot of *mwah* in NYC...it was a giant bowl of Count Chocula for the soul. A giant peanut butter chocolate chip cookie for the spirit. A juicy slab of meatloaf for my weltanschauung. Another terrible food metaphor here. Also: champagne.

Enjoyed: MOMA, Natural History museum (okay, I was *full* after about 2 floors; how many dioramas can one woman take? Answer: 8), Shake Shack frozen custard with Valrhona chocolate chunks, Central Park (and randomly running into a friend visiting from New Orleans), various foods and beverages, passing Jackie Mason on Madison Avenue, the restaurant at the Dahesh Museum, and I could go on. *mwah.*
