What an amazing resource: World Wide Words. Though its subheading claims "investigating international English from a British viewpoint," it's really for anyone who speaks this here language you're reading. There are articles on outdated words for alcoholic drinks, the history and definitions of various words, from snollygoster to floccinaucinihilipilification (Jesse Helms once used this word in a speech; this should surprise no one).
I love, LOVE, love Aqua Teen Hunger Force, the strangest 15 minutes of programming on the Cartoon Network. And in a spastic fit of Cheetos-induced insight, I think that I have a character theory for Master Shake, Frylock, and Meatwad. Here it is:
Master Shake = Id
Meatwad = Ego
Frylock = Superego
(It is a constant curse of a liberal arts education to wrap everything up in pseudo-psychological pieces. Okay, it's my constant curse. Whatever. I've got important cartoons to watch.)
